Ian Eslick looks at five easy and simply ways to show your team how much they mean to you…
You know yourself how much you appreciate your staff and all the work they do to help your practice run as smoothly as possible. However, as you know, sometimes it can be more difficult to find the time to regularly show them how valued they are.
So here are five quick things you can do with your team to show them how much you think of them.
Appreciation breaks
Some days can feel so busy that you only just find time to take a break. It is important that all staff get their breaks, but sometimes you can go one further to show them how much you really value them.
Every now and then you can use what I like to call appreciation breaks. This could come in the form of maybe an extra long weekend, so an occasional day off on a Friday or a Monday, or it could be an early 2.30pm finish on Friday.
The extra time off will definitely go down well with the staff, and they won’t forget it.
Email notes
Out of the five tips I’m going to give you this is probably the simplest, but it is so effective. Just a little message such a thank you, well done, or a keep it up can go a long way to creating a great atmosphere in practice.
So, if you haven’t got time to go around every staff member, just pop them a little note in an email. They’ll appreciate it, and if you can personalise it then even better.
Presents
This can be seen as a reward and as a thank you for all the hard work your employees put in to making the business the best it can be. These can come in all shapes and sizes.
One practice gave their team a gift that contained a pair of pyjamas, popcorn and a small bottle of wine, with a note saying, ‘have a relaxing movie night on us’, and the team were thrilled.
Social outing
Now some might think this could be a strenuous exercise, but it doesn’t have to be. You can go all out, have a big day somewhere and make it all fancy, or equally, you can have as big an impact on your team if you arranged to go out for drinks, and bought a few rounds.
It builds that morale between the team, strengthens your relationship with your staff and re-enforces their value to the practice and to you.
Shout on social
You’re proud of your team so show them off and shout about them. On your social media page, put together some profiles of your staff members, with some info such as a funny facts about them or their main interests and what they do.
It will help raise the profile of the staff member among the patients and will show them how proud you are of them for the work they do.
